‘GRIDA’ means ‘to draw’ in Korean. Drawing is one of the most primitive acts of creation. However, as an individual grows up, this “aesthetic ability” seems to disappear among general people, while “logical abilities” such as linguistic capability and rational thinking become stronger. The drawing acts, therefore, are now regarded as something special and exclusive, something that only a few ‘talented people’ can do.
This exhibition is an attempt to challenge these kinds of prejudices; an output of an experimental drawing class, named ‘GRIDA’. People who genuinely like to draw, even those who are not art majors, gathered together and drew certain of stuff, learning the basic concepts of drawing. In the exhibition, you will also be able to see the 7 week-process. In addition, one of the most precious points is the “diversity” of participants. They come from a wide range of academic fields, including medicine, economics, literature, and information science. Also, the participants come from various countries, such as Germany, Thailand, Korea,Taiwan, Indonesia, Japan, and Ecuador. Through their various drawings, you will get the chance to think about ‘what drawing truly is’. Bedsides, you may also discover a different way to approach art, defying the traditional relationship between artists and appreciators, producers and consumers.
