The primary aims of this class are to help students:
1)Build their overall confidence and ability to communicate in English
2)Improve their listening comprehension and speaking fluency in both
conversational and formal English
3)Understand the basics of creating and giving presentations, including visual
design, focused language, and clear speaking style
4)Ask and answer productive questions in response to presentations

●授業内容
Most of our class time will be spent developing and practicing presentations through pair work, group work, and class discussion. Students will choose their own topics and give two or three presentations (5 to 10 minutes each), depending on the number of students in the course. As each student gives her or his presentation, the other students will be expected to listen attentively, take notes, and ask questions following the presentation. The instructor will also model presentation techniques and provide some focused listening and speaking activities. Specific lesson topics will include:
*Listening comprehension strategies for casual and academic situations
*Useful terms, expressions, and other fluency-building resources for casual and academic situations
*Brainstorming possible presentation topics that are meaningful to yourself and others
*Using conversational English to discuss why you are interested in particular topics with classmates
*Designing focused and effective presentations
*Strategies for clear communication, including speaking style and body language
*Achieving successful interactions between speakers and audience members during question and answer sessions
*Providing detailed and helpful feedback to classmates through peer review

35% presentations; 15% participation, including taking notes during classmates' presentations and asking questions afterward; 50% items described below.

●注意事項
対面授業に加え、課外学習として、英語（コミュニケーション）用「ぎゅっとｅ」リスニングを課し、その消化率に基づく評価を授業全体の評価の２０％とする。また、ＴＯＥＦＬＩＴＰの成績（Ｌｉｓｔｅｎｉｎｇ、Ｓｔｒｕｃｔｕｒｅ）の評価を３０％とする。５回以上欠席をした場合、「欠席」の評価がつく。履修取り下げ制度は採用しない。

This class will have an active learning environment. Students will be expected to participate enthusiastically in group work and class discussion activities as well as question and answer sessions following presentations. They will also be expected to prepare their presentations carefully outside of class and give presentations from notes rather than reading from a script. Please feel free to approach the instructor with any requests or concerns about this class.
