●本授業の目的およびねらい
本授業は、英語という言語、その言語が培ってきた文化、および現代社会における英語文化についての深い教養を身につけることをその目的とする。英語・英語文化にかかわる様々な主題についての文献・資料調査、調査に基づく英語による口頭発表など、少人数授業の利点を生かした学習活動を行い、研究拠点大学である名古屋大学の学生にふさわしい学術英語の運用能力をさらに高めることを目指す。

Other than meeting whatever institutional requirements have been determined by the university authorities, it is a good idea to be curious about consciousness, existence, and such like.

●授業内容
This course will provide opportunities to think about the subject of consciousness through three books. The first book to be read proposes a new way to approach consciousness, the second book is an interview of the author of the first, and the third book is an analysis based on an issue raised by something said in the interview. Reading assignments will be given as homework, and in class students will be required to write an essay about the assigned reading (books, mechanical devices, etc. will not be allowed when writing, and also memorized passages from the text will not earn points) and then to answer questions and such like on worksheets (books etc. will be allowed for this).

●成績評価の方法
The course grade will mainly be based on the summation of the weekly projects - the essay at 33% and the worksheets at 67% - done in class.

●教科書
The three books which will be used are available from the teacher during and after the first class meeting, when details will be given.

●参考書
At least one dictionary for working with the English language is recommended.
|
●注意事項
対面授業に加 え、課外学習として電子教材を課し、その成績に基づく評価を授業全体の評価の２０％とする。なお、５回以上欠席をした場合、「欠席」 の評価がつく。履修取り下げ制度は採用しない。
