本授業は、学術的な英文に関する基礎的なリーディング能力とライティング能力の養成

を目的とする。そのねらいは、研究拠点大学である名古屋大学の学生にふさわしい学術英

語を使いこなす能力を身につけるところにある。論理的な英文のカギとなるパラグラフの

構造に着目し、目的に応じて必要な情報をいかに読みとるか、また逆に、自分の考えをそ

の根拠とともにいかに説得力ある論理的な英文に組み立てるかを学ぶ。将来、専門の論文

を英語で読んだり書いたりする時に、指針となる英文構成法の基礎、および実際に役立つ

英語表現を多く習得する。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　

　組織的かつ段階的にリーディング＆ライティング技術を学ぶ過程から、受講生の自律型

学習を促進したいので、それに対応できる心的態度をしっかり持った学生が履修すること

が望ましい。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　

This class consists of three parts as follows:                                  

1) Develop your reading skills: learning how to read by the instructor's        

   explanation.                                                                 

2) Enjoy skill-oriented reading: we'd like to learn ''paragraph reading'' and   

   ''paragraph writing'' according to the contents of the given textbook:       

 1. Paragraph Structure.                                                        

 2. Types of Support.                                                           

 3. Brainstroming and Choosing a Topic.                                         

 4. Writing a Topic Sentence.                                                   

 5. Making an Outline and Writing Support.                                      

 6. Writing a Concluding Sentence.                                              

 7. Unity.                                                                      

 8. Coherence.                                                                  

 9. Subordination.                                                              

 10. Style.                                                                     

 11. Descriptive Paragraph.                                                     

 12. Comparison/Contrast Paragraph.                                             

 13. Classification Paragraph.                                                  

 14. Argumentative Paragraph.                                                   

 15. The Final Examination.                                                     

3) Take a comprehension test and run a self-diagnostic check on reading ability.

   You, the students, are surely expected to review each lesson at home and     

   build up the word power.

　対面授業に加え、課外学習として、「ぎゅっとｅ」（中級）のライティング、リーディ
