| 本授業の目的およびねらい | | 本授業科目は，専門的学習のツールとして外国語の能力を高め，異文化理解を深めて，国際社会に相応しい教養を育むことが目的である。
The purpose of the seminar is to give the students the opportunity to increase their confidence and skills in speaking and especially in making presentations. |
| | | 授業の構成 | | The first week will be for introduction of the students to the course and discussion of the rest of the program.
After that, each week one or two students will make a presentation on their chosen topic. This could be on a text, such as a work of literature, a place visited or to be visited, a hobby, an explanation/exploration of an aspect of Japanese, British or American culture or history, an ecological or scientific issue etc.
Other students and the instructor will then ask questions arising from the topic, ask for clarifications or the reasons why the presenter was drawn to the topic and give feedback on the presentation.
The emphasis is on achieving clear communication and learning the skills for holding an audience’s attention and on sharing knowledge and personal experiences in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
The skill of listening to a presentation will also be practised. We will use Zoom initially and see if this works well. If not, we may switch to another method such as the posting of presentations and the discussion of them through Forum on NUCT. |
