| 本授業の目的およびねらい | | 本授業科目は，専門的学習のツールとして外国語の能力を高め，異文化理解を深めて，国際社会に相応しい教養を育むことが目的である。
英語・英語文化にかかわる様々な主題についての文献・資料調査、調査に基づく英語による口頭発表など、少人数授業の利点を生かした学習活動を行い、研究拠点大学である名古屋大学の学生にふさわしい学術英語の運用能力をさらに高めることを目指す。 |

| 授業の構成 | | Students will work in small groups to deliver presentations about a book of their choice.
Each student will choose an independent project to work on outside of class. This may involve reading, conversation, or language-related circle activities.
Students will also read essays before class, and discuss questions related to these essays during class time.
The following topics are planned, though the plan may change if necessary:
How do people learn many languages? How is social media changing the world? What time should people go to sleep? Should government promote happiness? Should there be any limits on free speech? Should we try to live forever? Which jobs are at risk because of robots? Should humans try to change nature? Can we stop global warming? Is free trade good for all, or good for some? Why is there a gap between rich and poor? Do developing countries need our help? |

| 注意事項 | | | 対面授業に加え、課外学習としてe-learningを課し、その成績に基づく評価を授業全体の評価の２０％とする。なお、５回以上欠席をした場合、「欠席」の評価がつく。履修取り下げ制度は採用しない。 |

| 担当教員からのメッセージ | | The purpose of this course is to help students improve their foreign language proficiency, understand foreign cultures, and acquire the knowledge required in a globalized society. In a small-sized class, students will conduct literature reviews and make presentations on topics related to English language/cultures. Students are expected to become competent users of academic English.
