本授業の目的およびねらい
本授業科目は,専門的学習のツールとして外国語の能力を高め,異文化理解を深めて,国際社会に相応しい教養を育むことが目的である。
AEB、AEI、AR1及びeラーニングによって培った英語の読解力を用いて、さらに高いレベルの、また多様な英文の読解を行うとともに、現代社会における英語圏の文化についての深い教養を養う。文学部学生を対象に開講する。
授業の構成
1. In this advanced reading course, students choose university-level books from the “Very Short Introductions” series (Oxford University Press) in the Central Library of the university and read as many titles as they can during the semester.

2. In groups, students discuss their readings by explaining the contents and the issues of their books and by asking each other questions in order to deepen their understanding and improve their comprehension skills. Students also write a book report on each title they read.

3. On the first day of class, the instructor explains the goals and purposes of extensive reading and provides a list of titles in "Very Short Introductions." In subsequent class meetings, the instructor posts handouts on NUCT to help the students read, analyse, discuss, and report on their readings.

Students' in-class reports (30%), classroom discussions (30%), book reports (40%).
5回以上欠席をした場合、「欠席」の評価がつく。履修取り下げ制度は採用しない。

The purpose of this course is to help students improve their foreign language proficiency, understand foreign cultures, and acquire the knowledge required in a globalized society. Utilizing previously acquired reading skills (covered in Academic English Basic, Intermediate, Advanced Reading 1, and e-learning), students will read various English texts. They will also deepen their knowledge of contemporary English language and cultures. This course is offered to students in the School of Letters.
