| 本授業の目的およびねらい | | 本授業科目は，専門的学習のツールとして外国語の能力を高め，異文化理解を深めて，国際社会に相応しい教養を育むことが目的である。
英語・英語文化にかかわる様々な主題についての文献・資料調査、調査に基づく英語による口頭発表など、少人数授業の利点を生かした学習活動を行い、研究拠点大学である名古屋大学の学生にふさわしい学術英語の運用能力をさらに高めることを目指す。 |

| 授業の構成 | | | Most of our class time will be used for pair work, group work, and class discussion. Students will give two ten-minute presentations. The first will be a source-based presentation about a topic related to the English language and the cultures of English speakers throughout the world. The second will be an argumentative presentation about a meaningful social issue. In early classes, we will discuss the current status of English in contexts such as Japan and reconsider basic assumptions about what the language is, who uses it, and for what purposes. |

| 担当教員からのメッセージ | | The purpose of this course is to help students improve their foreign language proficiency, understand foreign cultures, and acquire the knowledge required in a globalized society. In a small-sized class, students will conduct literature reviews and make presentations on topics related to English language/cultures. Students are expected to become competent users of academic English.
