Initial assessment of current writing level will be used to evaluate minimum standards of acceptability. Once students have reached minimum standards, we will advance to paragraph reading and writing in detail.

Various paragraph constructions such as introduction, body, and conclusions will be examined and analyzed, practiced, self-evaluated, peer-evaluated, and Instructor-reviewed. Students will be encouraged to develop pre-writing, drafting, revising and editing skills so that they are better equipped to express themselves on a range of topics. Pair and group discussions of paragraph strengths and weaknesses will allow students to learn from other anonymous students' writings. As writing is a time-intensive activity, students unable to complete assignments in class will be required to do homework.

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to write an acceptable essay (Introduction, Body, Conclusion) on a general or major-specific topic. Common vocabulary will be introduced so that students can write and read more proficiently with major-related terms they will likely encounter both in academic and professional environments.
