| 本授業の目的およびねらい | | | 本授業科目は，専門的学習のツールとして外国語の能力を高め，異文化理解を深めて，国際社会に相応しい教養を育むことが目的である。そのねらいは、研究拠点大学である名古屋大学の学生にふさわしい学術英語を使いこなす能力を身につけるところにある。論理的な英文のカギとなるエッセイの構造に着目し、目的に応じて必要な情報をいかに読みとるか、また逆に、自分の考えをその根拠とともにいかに説得力ある論理的な英文に組み立てるかを学ぶ。将来、専門の論文を英語で読んだり書いたりする時に、指針となる英文構成法の基礎、および実際に役立つ英語表現を多く習得する。 |

| 授業の構成 | | | The major assignment in this course is a library research essay. First, students will determine a personally and socially significant topic. Then, they will construct an argument by drawing relevant information from reliable sources in order to establish an overall position. They will take a process approach to writing, including brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing. Therefore, this course aims to help students understand organizational principles in English academic essays. |

| 成績評価の方法と基準 | | | 40% source-based essay; 10% participation, attendance, and homework; 50% items described below in “注意事項.” Students who fail to submit assignments by the deadlines (each due date will be announced every week) for 5 lessons or more will receive a final grade of a “W”「欠席」. Each late submission of required documents or tasks will be considered as one absence. |
