本授業の目的およびねらい

本授業科目は，専門的学習のツールとして外国語の能力を高め，異文化理解を深めて，国際社会に相応しい教養を育むことが目的である。
リスニングとスピーキングを主としたコミュニケーションの能力を高める授業を行い、日常会話、さらにはディスカッションやプレゼンテーションのための基礎力を養成する。

授業の構成

The primary language of instruction is English. Students will develop their aural communication skills through regularly participating in learning activities such as:
1) Show and tell: students will present a video clip, visual image, or material object to the whole class.
2) Journal writing and discussion: in their AEC journal, students will write about their daily observations to address a question provided by the instructor. A reading material will be provided to assist students' writing. In class, they will talk in a small group to share their thoughts based on their journal. Students will discuss concrete topics in the first several classes. More abstract and complex themes will be gradually introduced afterwards.
3) Compare and contrast: in a small group, students will discuss similarities and differences between two selected subjects. They will create a short presentation to tell their discussion result to the whole class.

注意事項

課外学習として「Ａｃａｄｅｍｉｃ　Ｅｘｐｒｅｓｓ３」を課し、その消化率に基づく評価を授業全体の評価の２０％とする。また、ＴＯＥＦＬ　ＩＴＰ（Ｌｉｓｔｅｎｉｎｇ，Ｓｔｒｕｃｔｕｒｅ）の評価を３０％とする。５回以上欠席をした場合、「欠席」の評価がつく。英語検定試験による単位認定を申請する学生以外は、履修取り下げを認めない。
