●本授業の目的およびねらい
本授業は、英語という言語、その言語が培ってきた文化、および現代社会における英語文化についての深い教養を身につけることをその目的とする。英語・英語文化にかかわる様々な主題についての文献・資料調査、調査に基づく英語による口頭発表など、少人数授業の利点を生かした学習活動を行い、研究拠点大学である名古屋大学の学生にふさわしい学術英語の運用能力をさらに高めることを目指す。

●授業内容
This seminar will examine economics-related issues affecting the past, current, and future conditions of Japan. Initial student input will be used to help formulate the most effective way to conduct the seminar based upon the interests of the students. Social issues affecting the economy will also be covered such as childhood poverty and "kodomo shokudos", single parent households, divorce, etc. Upon successful completion of the course, students will have the basic knowledge to help solve many issues affecting us all.
In addition, common economics vocabulary will be learned to help students communicate more fluently and easily.

●成績評価の方法
Gyutto-E 20%, in-class and out-of class writing assignments 30%, in-class participation and effort 20%, final exam 30%.

●注意事項
対面授業に加え、課外学習として電子教材を課し、その成績に基づく評価を授業全体の評価の２０％とする。なお、５回以上欠席をした場合、「欠席」の評価がつく。履修取り下げ制度は採用しない。

Students will be required to bring a deck of playing cards (trump cards)
to each and every class. This will be used for learning, teaching, practicing,
reviewing, etc.
