●本授業の目的およびねらい
本授業は、英語という言語、その言語が培ってきた文化、および現代社会における英語文化についての深い教養を身につけることをその目的とする。英語・英語文化にかかわる様々な主題についての文献・資料調査、調査に基づく英語による口頭発表など、少人数授業の利点を生かした学習活動を行い、研究拠点大学である名古屋大学の学生にふさわしい学術英語の運用能力をさらに高めることを目指す。

●授業内容
Customized materials will be used for this course to enable students to improve their ability to use academic English.
The following topics will be covered:
1. Formal greetings and self-introduction.
2. Formal letter and e-mail writing.
3. Academic text reading and content analysis (topics: English language, literature, history, law, culture, philosophy).
4. Group discussions on academic topics.
5. Practice in English pronunciation and expressive intonation.
6. Short speeches based on the topics discussed in class.
7. Analysis of famous public speeches in English; analysis, practice and imitation of the oral delivery (making i-movies).
8. Academic presentation structure (presentation script and ppt).
9. Oral ppt presentations based on research findings.

●成績評価の方法
Short speeches (20%), final ppt presentation (20%), participation (10%), i-movies of oral performance (10%), out-of-class learning materials (20%); Extra points will be added for outstanding performance.

Customized (reading and video) materials and handouts will be used for this course.

1. John Trim, English Pronunciation Illustrated, Audio CDs(2), Cambridge University Press, 2017.
An English language dictionary is recommended.

●注意事項
対面授業に加え、課外学習として電子教材を課し、その成績に基づく評価を授業全体の評価の２０％とする。なお、５回以上欠席をした場合、「欠席」の評価がつく。履修取り下げ制度は採用しない。
