●本授業の目的およびねらい
This course aims to understand the overview of comparative and international education for the undergraduate student to graduate student, and focuses on the definition, history, theories, research perspectives and recent education phenomena under the impact of globalization and internationalization of education. Through examining various internal and external factors surrounding the educational system, students are expected to clarify the social causal relationship and structure behind it and contribute to building a better society on its own initiative.

Language of instruction: English. Students should hold an English level equal or above of: TOEFL PBT 523, TOEFL iBT 70, IELTS 5.5,TOEIC 730.

1. Introduction (Structure of this course)
nature and history of comparative investigation in education
2. Comparative and international education
History, research methodology, epistemology, framework
3. Internal and external factors that influence education
Economic, political, social, cultural, historical factors
4. Education and development, Theory in comparative education
Human capital theory, modernization theory, liberation theory, reproduction theory
5. Use of international surveys on student achievement
OECD(PISA), IEA(TIMMS), UNESCO
6. Policy transfer, World system theory
7. Group presentation
8. Group presentation/Feedback

●成績評価の方法
Participation/Group discussion:10%, Group presentation:20%, Mid-term paper (1,500-2,000word):30%, Final paper (2,500-3,000word):40% Students need to submit a Course Withdrawal Request when requesting course withdrawal.
