●本授業の目的およびねらい
学会や社会で求められるプレゼンテーションを行えるよう、リーディング・スピーキング・リスニング・ライティングの各能力を高め、また４技能の統合を目指すことを目的とする。研究拠点大学たる名古屋大学の学生に相応しい学術英語を使いこなす能力を、実際の運用を前提とした学習活動を通して養う。自分の考えをその根拠とともにいかに説得力ある論理的な英文に組み立てるかというこれまで英語（基礎）・（中級）で養った知識・技能と、英語（コミュニケーション）で培ったコミュニケーション能力に加え、プレゼンテーションに必要な知識や技能を習得し、学術英語を使いこなす能力を更に発展させる。

●授業内容
This course will be comprised of two major presentation assignments. The first assignment will involve collaborative group work. Each group will determine an argumentative topic, and individual group members will present information, evidence and their opinions related to the topic. The second assignment is an original research presentation. Students will individually design a small-scale research project to investigate a personally and socially relevant issue. First, they will conduct research by using interviews, surveys or both to collect original data. Next, they will analyze their data and give short presentations (5-10 minutes) to describe their findings. Specific lesson topics will include:
1. Brainstorming possible topics with personal and/or social significance
2. Finding relevant and reliable sources to obtain information and evidence
3. Working closely with information in sources through summary and paraphrase
4. Explaining claims/opinions by using an explanation, reason, or personal experience for support
5. Designing presentations that lead to active and productive class discussions
6. Collaborative work: achieving successful projects by sharing different viewpoints and providing feedback to classmates
7. Principles of designing and conducting interviews and surveys
8. The basics of original data analysis

●成績評価の方法
30%: Individual contribution to group presentation. 30%: Original
research presentation. 20%: Attendance, participation and homework.
20%: Tasks described below in "Chui-jiko".

●注意事項
対面授業に加え、課外学習教材「eFACE」を課し、その成績に基づく評価を授業全体の評価の２０％とする。なお、５回以上欠席をした場合、「欠席」の評価がつく。履修取り下げ制度は採用しない。

•The class will have an active learning environment, with most class time spent on group work, pair work, and class discussion. Lectures and class discussions will be conducted primarily in English, and all students will be expected to participate.
•Three late arrivals will be conducted as one absence. If students come to class more than 15 minutes late, they will be marked absent.
