●本授業の目的およびねらい
学会や社会で求められるプレゼンテーションを行えるよう、リーディング・スピーキング・リスニング・ライティングの各能力を高め、また４技能の統合を目指すことを目的とする。研究拠点大学たる名古屋大学の学生に相応しい学術英語を使いこなす能力を、実際の運用を前提とした学習活動を通して養う。自分の考えをその根拠とともにいかに説得力ある論理的な英文に組み立てるかというこれまで英語（基礎）・（中級）で養った知識・技能と、英語（コミュニケーション）で培ったコミュニケーション能力に加え、プレゼンテーションに必要な知識や技能を習得し、学術英語を使いこなす能力を更に発展させる。

Students who have met whatever requirements have been established by the university may enroll.

●授業内容
Because the course is supposed to cultivate skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening, a variety of activities will
be done. A reading book and a workbook will be used to introduce students to various issues in contemporary America.
Activities are likely to include answering questions, writing essays, group discussions, and oral presentations on the part
of the students, as well as some explanations of the text by the teacher.

●成績評価の方法
For the part of the course under the teacher's jurisdiction: attendance 33%, the summation of marked activities 33%,
final (cumulative) examination 34%.

●教科書
The reading book and the workbook will be made available at the first class meeting, and they are expected to cost less
than 3001 yen according to the purchasing power of the yen in December 2011.

●参考書
At least one dictionary which will be useful for working with the English language.

●注意事項
対面授業に加え、課外学習として電子教材を課し、その成績に基づく評価を授業全体の評価の２０％とする。なお、５回以上欠席をした場合、「欠席」の評価がつく。履修取り下げ制度は採用しない。

Participation is very important, and all work must be done on time. It is hoped that a course such as this one will
encourage students to learn about another country or culture, to be creative, and to use the English language for purposes
other than passing tests and demonstrating intelligence.
