patterns, pronunciation, J-E and E-J                                            

translation, dictation, timed talking

Ill-prepared students hinder progress of                                        

diligent students.                                                              

Students will be responsible for burden                                         

of learning. Active participation is                                            

required and students will be called on                                         

frequently and randomly to check                                                

progress. Students will learn 4-500 new                                         

vocabulary words per semester. Much time                                        

will be spent on pronunciation of                                               

difficult sounds such as B/V, L/R, etc.                                         

Realistic listening comprehension from                                          

native English speaker will be done                                             

regularly. Students will spend much time                                        

speaking in pairs and groups in English                                         

only. Japanese social problems such as                                          

declining birth rate, again population,                                         

etc. will be taught and discussed in                                            

English. Regular drills and exercises                                           

will be conducted at a fast past to                                             

verify progress of students and to                                              

identify problem areas. Please do not                                           

take this class unless you are willing                                          

and able to do the homework and keep up
