●本授業の目的およびねらい
The overall purpose of this advanced level reading course is to develop students' academic and professional English reading skills and help them gain self-confidence in reading challenging and interesting texts. Specifically, the course aims to teach students how to read more skillfully though the use of an extensive reading approach. Through this course, students will have a chance to share with each other ideas and information about books which they themselves have read and in which they are genuinely interested.

●授業内容
In this course, students will take it in turns to give short (approximately 10 minute) oral slide-based presentations in English on books that they have read and any particular difficulties they encountered in reading them. The aim of the course is to break away from dependence on textbooks or simulated communication organized by the teacher and move instead towards genuine communication organized by the students themselves. Accordingly, students will not be obliged to talk about particular books but will be free to speak about any books that interests them and which they feel will interest their classmates. However, given that this is an advanced class, it is hoped that students will choose to give at least one presentation about a book related to their academic or professional interests.
Students will be expected to give either two or three presentations, depending on the number of participants who take the course. Students must prepare their presentations carefully and be able to give their presentation based on notes and slides rather than simply reading from a script. On the other hand, they will not be expected to memorize their presentations. While each student is giving his or her presentation, the other students will take notes, either in English or Japanese. After each presentation there will be a follow-up question and answer / discussion session in English and the teacher will provide the presenter with a detailed feedback report on his or her overall performance and give advice on how to improve their reading skills.
