The primary aim of this class is to provide students with opportunities to develop confidence in their English abilities, particularly speaking and listening, through exercises based upon interviews with some leading scientists.

●授業内容
We are going to use a textbook, Exploring Scientific Topics: Nova Science Podcast Interviews. As this long title implies, students will work on acquiring speaking skills through watching and listening to the interviews with scientists. Each unit provides students with exercises based upon the most recent scientific topics. Students are required to use knowledge and skills learned in their prior Academic English classes when they prepare for the exercises in each unit. All the members in the class should try to express themselves in English, although they are not expected to use completely flawless, standardized English.
In the classroom, students work in pairs or in groups to acquire speaking and listening skills. The students are asked to prepare both for all the exercises in each unit in the textbook and for review quizzes for each unit at the beginning of each lesson. So they are expected to come to class well-prepared to be an actively contributing member of the class. They will only receive participation points if the instructor is regularly aware of their presence and active participation.

●注意事項
対面授業に加え、課外学習として、英語（コミュニケーション）用「ぎゅっとｅ」リスニングを課し、その消化率に基づく評価を授業全体の評価の２０％とする。また、ＴＯＥＦＬＩＴＰの成績（Ｌｉｓｔｅｎｉｎｇ、Ｓｔｒｕｃｔｕｒｅ）の評価を３０％とする。５回以上欠席をした場合、「欠席」の評価がつく。履修取り下げ制度は採用しない。

目標達成には、(1)具体的な動機、(2)やる気の育み、(3)時間の投下が必要です。特に英語の目標達成のためには、(3)が重要です。したがって予習復習、それも自学による復習の反復は不可欠です。体だけ教室に運んでくればよいという安易な気持ちでの受講は厳禁です。
