This class is designed to build on Academic Writing skills previously acquired by freshman students. The first part of the course will involve reviewing the elements of a coherent academic paragraph and necessary research and citation skills. The students will be expected to further hone pre-writing skills, leading to two major writing assignments for the semester, a comparative essay and an argumentative essay. In-class peer revision workshops will be run to accustom students to rewriting exercises. Key grammar points covered will include using active and passive voices, conjunctive adverbs, adverbs of frequency and quantifiers, among others. Particular attention will be paid to forming complete thesis statements.

Evaluation will be based on attendance and participation (including peer review workshops), in-class exercises, and the pre-writing, writing, and revision process for the two major essay assignments (comparative and argumentative essays).
