●授業内容

This is an advanced course for students to integrate their intermediate English skills (reading, speaking, listening, and writing) that they acquired and to tailor them. As one of the major objectives is to improve their presentation skills, students will learn Western logic and fallacies, persuasion skills, and critical thinking. They will acquire more sophisticated English to express their thoughts in writing and speaking. Students will be provided with advanced academic material, encouraged to write their thoughts critically, logically, orderly, and intellectually, and present them academically. Furthermore, students will acquire nonverbal communication skills, appropriate for public speech. Every week, students will be assigned to do listening and writing exercises, come to class ready for discussion, and share their critical thoughts on the issue. There may be pop quizzes on the article, for which the scores will be counted as the preparation grade. Students will be required to conduct some research and give presentations. Course material, class activities, and assignments are designed help students advance their English ability and get them ready for presenting at international conferences in English.

Classroom learning is limited. Create an English-language environment for yourself at home and outside the classroom. Try to live and think in English. Share your critical thoughts with your friends as often as you can in English. Listen to TED Talks and NHK Super-Presentation to improve your presentation skills as often as you can. When you read or listen to news or any information, try to think critically.
